We started this process shortly after seeing the need of soldiers transitioning out of individual service obligations into the civilian career force. Many soldiers showed concern of what is the next step for them and how can they continue to support themselves and their families.
As an SM and a Spouse, the transition out of the military can be so intimidating. We are given guidance from DoD civilians and other SMs who have never experienced a true separation from service. Through meeting with the CEOs in the organization, I have found a greater support system than I had ever anticipated. Any company can claim to be "veteran friendly" but these people are the CEOs sitting side-by-side and mentoring us through one of the most challenging parts of our lives. I feel more prepared to transition out of Active Duty and look forward to using this same program for my husband, as he prepares to make his entrance back into civilian life. There is no doubt in my mind that this program will be changing the lives of our veterans and their families."

The Vision of EMS US is to provide guidance and mentorship to soldiers
transitioning into the civilian workforce. Through 1-2-1 discussions and identifying the need of the soldiers, we can connect them with a mentor. This mentor will help guide them to success in a 6-week process.
Mission
Develop a scalable, sustainable process for business leaders to effectively partner with individual service members as they transition into civilian employment. |
Vision
Help guide thousands of service members from the military workforce into civilian employment. In doing so, we honor their service, acknowledge their skills, build their confidence, and increase their professional opportunities. |
Method
Our quarterly executive mentorship program provides individualized relationship-building, advocacy, business networking opportunities, targeted feedback, and empathetic guidance in order to maximize the service member's ability to successfully enter the civilian workforce. |
Process
Service members and local business executives self-select into this volunteer program on a quarterly basis. The initial Kickoff Connect<->US allows for personalized selection and assignment of 1-to-1 mentorship relationships. Service members then engage in 4-6 sessions of individual mentorship across the quarter, based on their own individual needs and professional goals. |
Having to go from the “large part” of the Army to more of a compartmentalized part of the Army. The biggest part of my transition that scared me was the not knowing what to do for work outside of the Army. The Army was all that pushed me to work for what is important to me. Keeping my goals in mind to get my degree and perform as a well as possible to make the ranks. Transitioning to the part-time service was adjusting to not having to wake up every morning to go to P.T. formation. This is still something that is difficult for me when it comes to my civilian job and getting ready to go back to school to attain my bachelor’s degree. My transition has been a little unsure of making sure that my paychecks are consistent. “
